I built my Pi4 speakers about 6 months ago, I tried to use premium parts in the build but had to use some dayton caps I had on hand to complete circuit. I was still looking for a little more resolution so when possible I upgraded the remaining caps. Now we were getting somewhere, and installing a couple of teflon bypass i was quite happy with results.
I just recently upgraded the internal wiring, replacing the 16awg solid core hookup wire i first started with. After Removing the 15" JBL driver and old wiring, I replaced the wire with a litz construction speaker wire harness from wywire, smaller litz wire for tweeter and a larger approx 12awg litz wire for the bass driver. I also replaced the wire from binding posts to network.
Ive read about a few guys replacing internal wires before with good results, never gave it much thought since I believed i used decent wire to start with. But I cant believe all the performance i had left on the table until now.
The wire swap was equal to a fine pair of interconnects or installing some high end speaker wires. I have an expanded sound stage and deeper tighter bass and silky highs. The mico detail increase is very close to having the Ncores back in my system. I did one speaker first and compared, I shortly unhooked the old speaker cause it was as if it was shouting at me. It now seemed sibilant and distorted in comparison. Now that both speakers are done i am completely blown away with the increased resolution and soundstage dimension. The speakers have completely disappeared and a vivid landscape of instruments are solidly placed. Micro details are outstanding.
If you have spent over 2k in diy speaker parts like myself, you need to consider this upgrade. You may be leaving a lot on the table like myself. These wires are very special and inexpensive for a 2 way speaker. Your results may vary, but here is my equipment.
