4bsst2 or 14bsst ????
« on: 10 Nov 2012, 06:52 pm »
After a brief departure, thinking about coming back to Bryston.  A new 4bsst2 or a used 14bsst?  Which do you recommend.  Room is 12x17.5 feet.  Speakers are Dynaudio Focus 340 floor standers (4 ohms).

Thanks!

Hey there Jax,

I think power wise the 4b is more than enough for your room and speakers but somthing to keep in mind is the power supply difference.  The 7s and the 14s offer better regulation and isolation than the 4b so you will get a quieter background and more in the way of dynamics and ultimate clarity.  The alternative and cheaper route would be the 4b with a bit power isolator.  As well, given the room you have, I would take two 7s over a 14 any day.  There is only a marginal difference in price and the 7s are considerably stronger when it come to the toughest loads.

What is the NAD not giving you that is bringing you back to Bryston.  You had a 4b sst2 didn't you??

I actually loved the NAD M2.  I would have kept it a long time but I had operational problems.  My dealer was great about it, but after 3 in row all with different issues I threw in the towel.  If they could get their arms around the QC problems, it's a killer integrated amp.

Yes, I had the 4b b4

I'm surprised, as I thought that NAD had a good track record but perhaps the allndigitalmtech is simply still too new and the bugs are not all worked out.  The studio heritage and related durability and reliability of the Bryston gear coupled with their great sonics are hard to beat.

Hi Jaxwired, I would suggest to go with with either the 7B or 14B. You would never have to worry about power after that...the 4B is a real steal for its performance and I really like it. Its plenty for a stand mount and would do a reasonable job for floorstander too. I think the 14B would be a much comfortable match.  :thumb:

I know a guy here that had 2 Nad amps and both developed serious issues within a few years. My 4Bst has never missed a beat in 13 years of daily use....love those military spec parts..worth the extra cost. :thumb:
