What issues with iTunes are you having?

the main issue is the program will often start on it's own (no CD etc) and refuse to shut down.  I've had it do this on four or five different Macs

any ideas?

When this happens is

a.  an iDevice plugged in via USB cable ?

b.  iTunes set to "Sync with this iDevice over Wi-Fi" ?

c.  iTunes set to "Open iTunes when this iDevice is connected" ?

(Both b and c options are shown on the Summary tab when the device is selected in the left side column)

Yes. Use XLD instead. The interface isn't as polished but it works and is consistently maintained (MAX has been broken for me for a long time and hasn't seen a significant update in several years AFAIK.)

Another ACer sent me a 3rd party user guide which I'll forward on if you want it and send me a PM.

BTW very impressed with your room at CAF, especially considering the fairly limited space.

Yeah, I think Max is Abandon Ware. Max still works fine for me (OS X 10.7.5), but then I always strip out the cover art anyway. There was an update a couple of years ago.

However, the guy appears to be active. He has a number of other apps in the stable. Maybe Rip will meet your needs:

I am very happy to use his Decibel for playback. He charges money for it.
