Mom and Dad's music.
« on: 28 Oct 2012, 02:44 am »
A couple of familiar notes can quickly bring back distant memories as they effortlessly melt away decades past. I experienced this tonight and before I knew it, I was once again a carefree child living with my Mom and Dad. My parents came to Canada from Scotland and my Dad also played the accordion both recreationally and professionally. His music would drift into my room as I was in the process of resurrecting my latest electronic find that was liberated from our local landfill site - Mmmm... vacuum tubes, such an elegant device and truly worthy of anthropomorphism.

A few songs on YouTube this evening and the memories of a simpler time brought an unexpected smile to my face and the realization of a lost innocence quickly erased it. We all feel from time to time, that we have the weight of the world on our shoulders and perhaps we never fully appreciate of how this is slowly eroding our very essence. Music is a blessing that enables us to momentarily escape our daily tribulations, to get out from under what is at times, a crushing weight - to close our eyes and temporarily silence the voices. I truly feel for individuals who do not appreciate music for their hearts are heavy and souls are a little darker.

Some tunes from my childhood  :D

Nice post, Laundrew, and I feel you.  Me mum and, most especially her best friend, introduced me to music with passion.  I reflect on this often.

Hi all Audio Circle members.

I first got interested by music when I was 12 years old.

My father bought a two pieces RCA Victor tube turntable
and my mother bought an album of classical music from the Reader
Digest.

That's how I got started loving music and equipment.
