Thanks for all the tips. So it looks like ANALOG OUTPUT on the CD player to either the tape INPUT or AUX INPUT of the Marantz 2230.
I am assuming either should be ok. What does the tape loop bypass, the preamp section of the Marantz? Will he still be able to use the volume pot?
Thanks
The tape loop is for playing back from a tape deck, like a reel to reel or cassette deck. The reason that it is a switched loop is to prevent the output of the tape deck from ending up in the input of the same tape deck. This would produce potential receiver/speaker killing feedback without the tape monitor button to select to the deck to either record or playback.
This function is before the preamp section of the receiver and the functionality is the same as if the CD player were hooked up to the AUX input.
The tape monitor switch would allow for monitoring of playback on a tape deck. In other words, a 2 head deck (erase, record/playback) could either play recorded music (with the monitor button depressed) or record music (with the button out) from any other source hooked up to the receiver (tuner section of the receiver, turntable or whatever was hooked up to the AUX input).
A 3 headed recorder (erase, record and playback) could actually playback music that was just recorded, but would have a slight delay (that time dependent on the distance between the record and playback head).
