I think it was the Cowsills that sang "Gimme a head with hair, long beautiful hair"

Well gimme a 626R with hair.

That is a "beard" and a "pony tail".

OK, I haven't lost it (I don't think anyhow)

Most of you know that Big B, suggests placing a solid surface from the bottom front edge of the 626R to the floor (called a beard) which will help acheive a tighter, deeper, and more powerful bass response.

Some time ago this was discussed on one of the "tweaks" threads which I commented on.  Someone (I think it might have been our own Jim Romeyn) ask why we didn't place the same type of device at the rear of the speaker, since the port also affected the bass response.

I made a mental note to "try" this and basically forgot about it.

Well I tried it today.  I just took a simple shelf I had lying in one of my closets and just leaned it up against the back of the 626R so that it was just under the port.

I call it a ponytail since it is a bit higher than the front (beard) and from the side it looks like a beard and ponytail

How does it work?  Well in my system it seems to add a bit more of that "depth of 3-D texture and Bass Body" that I like so well.

But additionally it seems to create a greater "presence" to the whole presentation.

Your results may vary since much of bass response is either helped or hurt by room interaction and this tweak will increase that interaction/propagation/degradation situation

Doesn't take to much to try so if you have a shelf or panel or even couple sheets of stiff cardboard, give it a try and let me know if it does anything for yours. 8)

You can't possibly be as nice as you sound like in your posts!    But who knows, maybe you are.   Glad you tried the tweek!

Hey, Brian is now installing the 6.5" WCF Megawoofer as standard equipment in all 626R & LRC.  I did not confirm but would certainly guess the XO might move up from 166Hz to 280Hz.  I believe there should be much more punch, dynamic slam, & greater presence/less distortion from 300ZHz all the way down to the cutoff.  I wonder how much mister B will be charging for the upgrade, which I am looking forward to hearing.

Hope you are staying cool down in sunny LA!

Best regards!

Cowsills may well have done a cover, but the musical was the original source.

Is that why Brian opens each post to me with "Dear SOB"?

Tonto you are correct.  I had that "original cast" album and wore it out around 1969.  And yes the Cowsills (where the hell did they get that name?  I mean what is a COW SILL?) did a cover which did pretty well on the charts.

"Gleaming, Steaming, Streamin, Flaxen, Waxin"

Joe,

I think this is only applicable to the 626, not your RM 30's.

John,

I tried it out yesterday, but I couldn't hear any difference with the shelf in place.
