Unable to set-up the Bryston mini app
« on: 20 Oct 2012, 11:28 am »
Finally got my BDP-1 up and running. Not being computer savvy, I surprisingly did it all by myself within about 15 minutes. Unit has the latest firmware but hope I can eventually figure out how to update it as needed.

I downloaded the Mpod software and was able to get that functioning well. I would like to try and use the Bryston Mini app with my iTouch also. I've tried many times to do this by putting the "bryston-bdp-1.local" and even the IP address into the Safari browser but nothing seems to happen except Google giving me some websites in the ballpark of what I just put in.  :duh: What the heck am I doing wrong here?

I have powered the unit(s) on and off and tried to set it up again many times to see if that would work but it don't. I have not tried a factory reset yet for fear of something else not working right afterwards. Any suggestions here would certainly be appreciated as I think I'm just missing one small step or forgetting something.

I've searched the forum and really couldn't find anything in particular to help me solve this issue short of having to "phone a Brystoneer friend" for help". Again, the Mpod app works great, not to mention the BDA and BDP combo sound great too. Just want to get her fully up and running so I can fully enjoy what it was made to do.

Hi Ken,

Have you tried entering the IP address the BDP has been assigned?

Hi Ken,

Are you typing the address in the box on the left or right?

Hi Chris

Finally,...SUCCESS! I know (thought) I tried typing in both boxes at different times and even while the unit was in various stages of start up. After I read your email this morning, I said screw it, one more try before going to work. I powered it up, typed bryston-bdp-1.local (made sure it was in the left search box) and BAM!., it popped up immediately. I only had a few minutes to play with it but did get my music playing.

One question though, what is the screen I see for "Authentication required", requiring a user name and password? I assume "bryston" is the password since I saw it on the BDP screen but how can I set up or choose the user name?

Thanks a million!

Ken

Hi Ken,

The excising version of Mini 2 has a handful compatibility issues, the next version due in a few weeks will resolve those and include some new features like touch gestures.

Cheers,
Chris

Hi Chris

Sounds good! I messed around with it lastnight and look forward to the newer features you speak of. If I compare the two, I would say, I like the  Mpod app a little better at the moment. My eyes aren't what they used to be, so an upgrade to an iPad may be forthcoming? I'm just glad both apps are functioning well and my music files never sounded better  :thumb:. Looking forward to more great things coming from Bryston.
