Transformer Positioning, Please
« on: 20 Oct 2012, 03:24 am »
I'm building a Decware SE84C kit.  Before I drill holes for the power and output transformers, I'd appreciate comments on how they should be positioned.  I have them sitting at right angles to each other, but unsure if this is necessary.  Also, what is the minimum distance between a transformer and a vacuum tube.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Mike

Your OPTs can be aligned with each other.  But you want both the OPTs to be 90 deg off from the power tranny.  In the pic, your left OPT is aligned with the power tranny and may couple with it, in spite of the distance.  Rotate that one 90 deg and you should be OK.

Thanks!  Does that mean that I could just as well rotate the right OPT to match the left one, and rotate the PT 90 deg???  This "looks" better to me, and puts the secondaries from the OPT's at the back, where the speaker binding posts will be.

Again, thanks.

Yup, that's what I would do. I guess it's too late to suggest a larger chassis?  :icon_lol:

I got a good deal on a pair of matching chassis (I'm wiring two kits mono...hopefully I'll have room ).  One more question.  Should I bolt the transformers directly to the chassis, or should I put a small plastic/rubber/?/ washer between the chassis and the transformers?

Thanks, Mike
