PLUS-**I'm going to throw in the 1m Monster Z200i RCA>XLR IC, I purchased to run this with my Conrad Johnson ET-3. I know...it's only Monster, but it didn't sound half-bad, against the likes of my other Cardas and Analysis Plus cables. I just don't want someone to have to worry about balanced-outs, if they want to try this fine amp.**This amp needs little introduction, as it is a well-known and currently available model. I tried this amp, as part of a 3-unit shoot-out, to replace my venerable Conrad Johnson power-amp. The 3 amps were a real study in contrasts. Some say you can't hear differences in Solid State amps...but the 3 distinctly struck me as "a bit too warm" (my C-J), "a bit too bright" (another competitor)...and I found the BAT to honestly be "just right"; NOT overly warm, and somewhat dull...NOT overly bright, but exciting. It was the perfect balance of plenty dynamic, yet musical and non-fatiguing.
So...why am I selling? I felt it beat out the C-J, but I did feel a 3rd unit just suited my tastes...and especially my system...a tiny bit better. I have a Conrad Johnson ET-3 pre-amp...and I feel it provides me plenty of warmth; so I wanted...by contrast...an amp that was very neutral. The BAT isn't; it's got just the right touch of musicality for most systems (if you have any questions about synergy with your pre-amp, feel free to ask; I never mind talking a little shop with a fellow enthusiast!)
As you can see from the included pics, there is nothing to hide; the amp is in great shape. Probably in '9' shape, and it is a current unit; but I'd rather under-promise and over-deliver (as my feedback will prove out)...so a solid 8 it is.
Please note; as per the brand...Balanced Audio Technology, lol...this does have XLR inputs only. However, I needed a pair of RCA>XLR ICs...to run this with my single-ended only C-J pre-amp; I have no need for them anymore, so I'll include them with the sale (no great shakes...Monster Z200i Reference; but they didn't sound half-bad, against the likes of my Cardas ICs). And before you ask...no, I was skeptical as well; but found no sort of degradation by going to an RCA>XLR cable.
One of the things, that screams quality build in a power-amp...to me...is whether it truly doubles in power, from 8ohms to 4. Most get close; not this BAT...125 into 8, double that for 250 BIG watts per side into 4ohms (which is what my Dynaudio C1 Signatures are). Dyns are notoriously power-hungry, and this BAT pushed them around just fine. Plenty of reviews out there; as I said...this is a current model, and would cost you $3800 to purchase new. Well below the usual half-price guideline for used gear.
I have the original box...and while it's sturdy enough, I will probably put it inside of a bigger box; for safe travel. Look at my long-standing, regular, and perfect feedback on Audiogon (HiEndPawn)...to insure you are buying from a trusted member, who will shoot you square, and make sure the item arrives as promised. There's enough drama on Audiogon these days, to make for a good Soap Opera.
Buyer pays only actual s&h, and I'll do what I can to accommodate you in that area. Let's stick to PayPal...that's safest these days. Please add 3%.
