The first 3D printed guitar has arrived...
« on: 14 Oct 2012, 03:38 pm »
As far as anyone seems to know, this is the first 3D-printed guitar on the planet, and it raises all kinds musical possibilities. “It’s rich and full and has a great tonal range,” says Summit.

The model used about $3,000 worth of plastic and had a headstock 3D printed with sterling silver; the plate on the neck was 3D printed out of stainless steel.

With the current rate of exponential technology and the resulting lowering of costs, it will be a handful of years before you can print one at home at a much lower price.

Interesting, but as the creator of this guitar corrected the article's author, only the body (resonant chamber) was printed - the rest are normal acoustic steel string components. Also, probably some wood or metal bracing inside.

I am amazed at how many articles I read these days are inaccurate.

I think 3D printed livers, kidneys, hearts, lungs etc... might be well received as well! :)
