WTB - Phono Preamp at $500 or less

I am looking for a phono pre-amp to add to my system. I am interested in Musical Surroundings Phonomena, JLTI, Firestone Audio Korora, Black Box, Pro Ject, etc. I want to spend $500 or less. Using a Thorens TD-160 with a moving magnet cart.

Vista Audio Phono 1 is an excellent phono preamp for $300 new. They now have a hot rod version called Phono 1+ for 400. You'll find some great reviews here on AC.

I have a Rane PS-1 High Fidelity Phono Stage, in mint condition, that I kept as an extra, you could have it for $150 shipped.

I just got a Jolida phono pre that blows away my (already good sounding) Pro-Ject II.
Underwood HiFi on A'gon lists them in the upper $500 range or "make offer". Built like a tank, no wall wart, sounds great! Trust me, make an offer. It'll probably be accepted.

I agree that the Vista Audio phono stage is one of the best deals in the high end.it doesn't look like much--barely bigger than a pack of Marlboros--but man, what sweet sweet sound comes from this unit. Custom made for your cartridge.

Another good source for Jolida is morrow audio which is where I just bought my 2nd one - they have some sort of a savings coupon going on.
I'm with thunderbrick, the Pro-Ject phono stage isn't in the same league.
