Hi Robert - yes true but as I said I have used the 2BSST and the 3B SST many times in bridged mode with 4 ohms loads on typical dynamic speakers with no issues at all.  If the amplifier was having problems you would see the LED current limiting lighting up RED.

james

So I guess the question is, what would be the output with a 4 ohm load bridged?

From the 2BSST Brochure  "The 2B SST² may also be operated in bridged mono, providing 360 Watts into 8 Ohms"

It would be around 450 watts but limited current.

Hi James, could you confirm the cosmetics match the current 4BSST2?

Cheers

Thanks James.

That‘s excellent news, in my 10 x 15’ room should be more than sufficient to keep up with the 4BSST seeing as the 2BLP (100 watts 4 ohms) with one channel did not do too bad of a job, but more power and the SST output devices should would be a welcome addition.

a similar sized mono block which would be ideal and might generate a lot of interest for those of us who currently have (and I know there are a lot of us) a 4B, 3B or 2B upfront and would just like to add a smaller centre channel amp for a HT set-up in a smaller room, maybe something to consider.

See, requests are already coming in.  :thumb:

Yes it looks identical to the current 2B - SST

I love the sound that comes out of my 2BSST2, in fact, I prefer it over my tubed 100 watt mono-blocks. Although it is rated to deliver
100 watts at 8 ohms, the check out sheet states it actually delivers 140 watts, not sure how that relates to a 4 ohm load but thinking
probably around 250 watts. I was originally going to buy either a 3b or 4B but glad I opted for the 2B instead.

I imagine Bryston's decision to come out with the 2.5 is largely a cost saving measure, correct me if wrong.

Hi,

Not sure I understand the 'cost savings' reference  but it evolved from the B135 Integrated amp in that the 2.5B is the power amp section from the 135.

Hello James,

I came back to edit my post but was too late. I didn't mean to imply anything negative at all about the 2.5. When I said "cost saving measure" I was referring that it could have been a business decision that the 2.5 was less costly to manufacture and also only having
to keep parts in stock to build one amp instead of two.

Hi

Yes in that sense you are correct as the same parts used in the new B135 Integrated make up the parts in the new BP-17 Preamp and 2.5B power amp. :thumb:

It’s actually refreshing to see attention given to smaller amps, although I have a 4BSST running my mains, my 2BLP and BR60 are able to produce the same distortion free volume levels in my room, mind you minus the reserve for dynamics with higher volume levels.
Not everyone needs or wants power horses, and many may actually prefer a smaller form factor, remember the 2BLP was the favourite small Bryston amp for many years.
Myself I’ve run out of rack space as my living room doubles for my music and movie viewing, the 2/2.5BSST at 450 watts bridged at 4 ohms would be perfect.
I had recently substituted the 2BLP with one of Emotiva’s amps, a UPA-1 350 watts 4 ohms, not a bad amp (as they say for the price) but it’s not a Bryston, but it was the only amp I found that fit in the designated space a side from the 2BLP.

Had I known the 2BSST could have been bridged for 4 ohms (teaching old dogs new tricks) it would have been my first choice, now that the power has been increased for a 2.5 all the better.

James,

so the new 2.5B replaces the 2B...does that mean that the 2B is gone forever? in the Bryston manner that almost every product is more an 'evolution' rather than a 'revolution' it seems that the 2B has reached its last stage when it became the 2B SST² ?!?!?!

Hi James,

Is the 2.5B SST2 shipping yet, and what is the suggested retail price.

Thanks
