I found this website that sells wood chopping blocks in thick measurements.  Might be good for isolation, but not the cheapest ever.

Josh, since you got married you're turning into the Martha Stewart of the audiophile world.  What's next?  Here's a "good thing":  http://www.marthastewart.com/page.jhtml?type=content&id=channel1105&catid=cat294
What on Earth would you use these for?!?  Why under the the turntable of course.  Much higher WAF than a sandbox.  And when she asks what sort of improvement they have you can be a smarty pants and tell her "Well honey it CLEANS up the sound by keeping the table isolated from all those DIRTY little vibrations"  hardy-har-har!  :)

Or how about:  http://www.cfainc.org/breeds/profiles/persian.html
Stuffed Persians as DIY acoustical room treatments.   One in each corner to absorb standing waves.  Not sure how you feel about taxidermy though.  The wife might think it's a bit tacky.

Matthew,

Your killing me!!!  Next thing we know he will be getting secret new audio product announcements and dumping his old audio equipment before "the common man".

Don't forget this for holding up those room treatments.  A bargain at $12.  Some blind testing is in order to ascertain quality.

Josh, Actually that chopping block may be a good find.
