Marantz DV9500 Universal DVD Player

Does anybody know if this player will be offered in the U.S.? It features the Crystal CS4398 DACs and 14bit/216mhz video DACs.

Spoke with Marantz Canada today and they told me the DV9500 will be their statement universal player like the 5900 is for Denon. They didn't think it would be available in the US until next year. It is available in Japan currently.

Marcus - I spoke with David Robinson of PF online and he recommends that I mod the 2900 or the Marantz 8400. I am buying a Philips 963SA to mod this week.

This is the craziest thing I have heard this week!

The DV9500 is just barely current with its features if it were released today - HDMI, upscaling etc . ..

Next year it will be a dinosaur with how fast things are changing in the source world.

What a way to miss a narrow window of opportunity.

I hope Marantz Canada is wrong!

Steve, I think your choices are good. There is alot of competiton of mods to the Denon DVD-2900. I don't know of any modders doing the Marantz DV-8400. Cost will probably be an issue with this player. I think this player retails for 1699.00. You could have a modified DVD-2900 for this price. I think I would prefer to wait for Denon's next generation of DVD players before opting to mod. the 2900. I havn't come across too many success stories about a modified Phillips 963SA.

UnderwoodHiFi charges $900 for a Level 1 mod. You can purchase the DVD-2900 between $700-$900.
