Well kids, the nominees for 2013 induction into the Rock'n'Roll Hall Of Fame have been announced...Someone has finally saved up enough allowance to buy a clue because amongst the fortunate few are ( drum roll please ! ).... Rush and Deep Purple. Halle-freakin'-lujah ! Better way late than never, I guess...  :shake:

Wow, talk about finally pulling their heads from the sand.

Or from somewhere...Have a look at some of the acts who have been inducted before these two finally got their shot at the hall. No idea what the criteria for selection are but it must involve things we mere mortals can never hope to grasp...

I am not sure their heads are fully out of the sand.  No doubt Rush and Deep Purple deserve to be inducted but the hall has no credibility with me as long as Stevie Ray Vaughan is not in.  How can artists  like Abba, Aretha Franklin, Madonna and non rock artists like Miles Davis be in, and  Stevie Ray not be?  He's been eligible since 08 and is still not in.  What a bunch of shite.  These are talented artists but are they more deserving to be in the Rock HOF over Stevie Ray?  I don't think so.

Other talented artists that are not in (although not as much as SRV) are Heart and Johnny Thunders.  I don't follow this closely but I think Jethro Tull is not in along with Chicago (their early stuff was very good until they pussed out), and the Cars.  Again, I could be mistaken because I don't follow this closely. I'm sitting in a hotel bar waiting for my friend to meet me for dinner!

Cheers

No offense intended as your love for SRV is well-known in these parts but I think Stevie would agree that Albert King should precede him into the Hall. As Albert is up for induction this year, maybe that will open the door. As far as how Chicago can't get inducted but Lynyrd Skynyrd can and why Miles Davis is in there at all ( unless covering a Cyndi Lauper song is the golden ticket ), your guess is as good as mine...

I think the Sex Pistols might have had it right when they responded to the news that they were getting inducted - the actual response is shown below:

Here's to "old famous".

DD,

I am not concerned about what Stevie Ray would think. He was a humble guy and I'm sure he could name a dozen artists who he would have chosen over himself.  I love Albert King and think he should have been inducted a long time ago.  The three Kings (Albert, Freddie and BB) are all great and among my favorites.  I prefer to listen to Stevie and the fact that so many questionable artists have gotten in before SRV is a joke.  This is supposed to be a rock and roll HOF.

Also, nothing wrong with Lynyrd Skynyrd being in the HOF, although I'm not sure it's cool for any rock band to be in a HOF. There is a certain lameness to it.

Yup. See Reply #4.
The lameness largely comes from a selection process ( alleged criteria are actually shown on the RRHOF website ) which often seems either biased or arbitrary - or some combination of the two. Not unlike the Grammys. Cleaning up the process would go a long way to giving the Hall some much-needed credibility. Unfortunately, as long as it is controlled by Jann Wenner and his posse of acolytes, don't hold your breath...
