Since Anthony Gallo has gone factory direct only, you can buy the Classico IV's for $2500, the TBI Millenia amp is $500, and the great tube AMR Dac is $5000. That totals $8000.

But I could live with the Eximus Dac, $3K, to save $2000 and I hear great things about the $1695 Mytek Dac to save more.

So for less than $5000, the Classico IV's, TBI, and Mytek will be a very hard to beat combo at even spending $8K.

Ozark,

You'd suggest someone spend almost twice as much money on a DAC compared to speakers and amp? Not sure I understand this.

I'm surprised of little more than a passing mention of room treatments...
DIY doesnt seem to garner much attention either....too bad....
8k in DIY system.....wow, at better than 50% mark-up....hitting close to
20k retail.

Polk Audio LsiM7's  $3000/pair
PrimaLuna Prologue Premium Integrated  $2000.00
Rega DAC $1000
Cable of your choice $1000
Shunyata Hydra 2 $400
Remaining $600 on some basic room treatments from GIK, $600

-$8,000 on the nose

Here's the used/vintage system I just assembled in room two:

Used Krell KSA 50 amp   $1,200
Used CJ PV12 with CJD Teflon cap rebuild  $1,500
Used Acoustat 1+1 speakers $600
Interface rebuild on above  $600
Used Linn LP-12 and Shure V15 mxvr  $800
Various AudioQuest cables $800
Used RSA Haley PLC $600
GIK room treatments $1000
Used Target rack $150

Cheating on digital, as just running a long set of IC's from the dCS in room one,
so no cost there. But could easily live without digital in this system.

$7250

Rega RP6/Exact $2000
Rega Brio-R $900
Oppo BDP-105 $1200
Zu Audio Omen Definitions $3200
Zu cables and GIK room treatment $700

Gives you vinyl, cd, sacd, bluray, dvd and a USB DAC.
Add the Rega DAC later and you're done

agreed; i cannot imagine spending more than $500 on a dac, regardless of total system cost.

your first system has zero sources (one if you add something to feed the dac); your second system has no fm...  no fm?  sacrilege!   :green:

Agreed. With decades of hindsight, I'd spend at least 2K of an $8K budget getting the room right. One doesn't have to go whole hog to get there. You can 80% of the way by measuring the room and using strategic hanging wall treatments/diffusers. And if you move, you can take a lot of the treatments with you.
