Mine are anything by Weather Report with Jaco Pastorius.  That said, here's one of Jaco with John Scofield:

The Complete Village Vanguard Recordings by the Bill Evans Trio is a fantastic showcase for Scott LaFaro's playing. He died in a car crash ten days after this date.

Dean Peer "Urcross"
The whole album is a bass freaks treat. Lots of upper harmonics too. It really doesn't get any better.

A few choice cuts from Marcus Miller will test your system beyond its design limits too. :thumb:

Bela Fleck and the Flecktones: the title track from "Flight of the Cosmic Hippo" (Great test of extension and solidity)

Little Charlie and the Nightcats, "My Next Ex-Wife" from "Night Vision" (revealing of articulation and definition)

Charles Mingus - "Haitian Fight Song" - I can't think of anything that comes close.

Anything by Renaud Garcia-Fons.
Arcoluz started my son on an acoustic bass obsession that has not let up yet. Renaud plays a 5 string bass with the extra string on the high side and gets a beautiful tone out of it. It comes apart at the neck for air travel.

Almost anything by Bass Mechanik is good. It'll liquify your innards if your subwoofers are up to the task. Sunn O))) in White One and White Two has some pretty serious low frequencies as well.

Mike Watt - Contemplating the Engine Room, pretty much the whole album but the track "Liberty Calls!" in particular.

Lots of great player mentioned here already.

I'd like to add Bass doubler Brian Bromberg's Wood I and II as well as all his other flavors. The Wood albums have some incredibly well recorded Double Bass that easily demonstrate that low E doesn't stop at 44.1 Hz. Another recording with exceptional Double Bass is Patricia Barber's Cafe Blue. Jim Anderson's recording of Michael Arnopol's Bass on Ode To Billy Joe is amazing.

Adrian Belew, "Side Three", with Les Claypool on bass. Excellent!  :thumb:
