Tilting a speaker?
« on: 9 Jun 2004, 11:41 am »
I've had my new Usher X-616 center channel speaker sitting on its box in front of the TV since Saturday.  Its final resting place will be above the tv. I want to angle it down toward the listening postion and to do this I'll need raise the rear end of the speaker approximately 6 inches.

I'll also need a couple of feet or something toward the front to keep it from sliding.

What's the best thing to use and where do I get it?

Thanks,
Jeff

Stan Tracht sent me an email with what appears to be the perfect solution. I'll check it out today and confirm its viability.

Jeff, here is a center speaker base that may work for you. Don't know the dimensions though.

I found to have the seemless panning between left and right speakers when the center channel drivers are inline between the two.  Unfortunately, this is not practical in most home applications.  I placed my center ch slightly tilted in front of the monitor on a stand which is 1ft below the main L&R speakers drivers.  I get much better integration compared to the center sitting on top tilting down.

Just my .02

NOT. It's rated at about 24 pounds.  My center weighs 48.5 pounds.

I think I'll try some dense foam to elevate the backend.

Ouch! Thanks for the tip Levi, but I've been married for 23 years and this beast sitting in front of the TV ain't gonna happen.

My wife thought that the stand Stan brought with him to demo my new center was the beautiful.  BUT...no way is she going to have this thing sitting right in front of the TV. :nono:

I hope it dosen't sound to bad stashed above.  The good news is she is now making noises that we should sell this wall unit, get a big TV and redesign the whole setup.  If we did that right the center could be below the screen.

Your 2 cents is appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeff

Uhh, is your center wide enought to use two of them?

bubba, not sure if two would work.  Regardless one can only achieve a couple of inches of tilt from the thing.  I'm guessing I'll need to raise the back end of the X-616 about 6 to 8 inches.

Thanks,
Jeff
