This DAC from the Danish pro audio company TC Electronic has several functions. It can accept coax, toslink or adat data streams up to 24/96 , re-clock them using a patented AISC chip and output them , with or without volume control to analog amplification on balanced lines, digital speakers using coax and/or headphones. The analog output can be set variable, reference or at fixed level . This Dac has received lots of praise on various computer audiophile and headphone sites as well as from LC Audio . Of particular note is the "JetDac" anti-jitter circuit which is also used by the likes of Allen& Health, Presonus, Mytek and Weiss and has an AES white paper. This is no undocumented voodoo gimmick .
While designed for pro use it is easily adapted to home use . I am including a set of xlr to rca adapters to allow use with unbalanced circuits as well as a custom cord to allow use with an outboard regulated power supply rather than the Euro spec. "green" wall wart it comes with . I have a fully regulated external supply available for extras $$$ but it weighs twice as much as the dac and would likely double shipping costs - local purchase probably makes more sense . The banana plugs/input jack cord should work with the like of Pyramid, Saalex etc.
Sound? To quote LC Audio:
"The BMC-2 from tc electronic is an extraordinary DAC. Based on a custom ASIC, it effectively attenuates jitter and offers great sound with a very well-defined sound stage. Connect your favourite digital source through either coaxial or optical digital cable. Due to the integrated volume control, the BMC-2 will drive your power amplifier directly...
We were extremely positively surprised!
You will be too... "  Shipping from Canada - Victoria BC - Shipping to US or Canada no problem - at cost- payment by PayPal (usual +3%) or international postal money order .feedback on many sites
