I gotta go with Jimi Hendrix again as greatest pianist, with Liberace as a close second. :thumb:
When you're right, you're right.  Hendrix was the greatest.  Too bad so few of his keyboard works are lost to us now.
And now for something completely different... a very close second to Hendrix is the performing duet of Sviatoslav Ricther and Rita.

I vote for Liberace as second best, right behind the first dude. Lee wouldn't have it any other way.    :thumb:

I'm not sure everyone gets the 'tongue in cheek' nature of this thread.

When I was a kid, I liked Abbott and Costello and The Three Stooges, etc. My father urged me to watch 'Animal Crackers'. I thought the Marx Brothers were all about comedy until seeing that film. Chico and Harpo stunned me with their musicianship (and I understood Harpo's name after seeing the movie). So, although you're not really stating that Chico was the greatest pianist of all time, I agree with the assertion that he was brilliant - so smooth while interjecting comedy in his playing.

Rachmaninoff arguably penned the greatest challenge for a pianist with his Piano Concerto #3.

  • To whom more was given more will be required.
    • Never go to a psychiatrist, adopt a straycat or dog. On the street they live only two years average.

Making people laugh is not easy, even more while playing the piano.

Much of Jimi's musical prowess came at the knee of his older sister, Ethel, who was quite an accomplished pianist.
His penchant for showmanship stemmed from the time Ethel dropped her lit Lucky Strike into the piano at the Boise, Idaho Great Western which set the thing on fire.
Eye witnesses state that she was pretty tipsy at the time due to the complimentary gin and tonics a visiting aluminum siding salesman was sending her way.  Even though she was a rather large woman, the sheer number of drinks evidently took it's toll.
This proved to be a turning point in the young man's life and shortly thereafter he built his first guitar out of a cigar box and a section of wooden fencing.
At any rate, to give credit where credit is due and say that Ethel Hendix was the third greatest pianist ever, right behind Chico and Liberace.
