Bryston gear and the (missing) display
« on: 22 Sep 2012, 05:43 pm »
James,

all the Bryston stereo preamps have no display (for volume etc...). is this something that Bryston would do on the next preamp models?
and i assume that the new BP 17 has no display, too...correct??

Correct - only the SP3 has a display at this point.

Just a comment. I would not want a display panel on my preamp.
A display generally causes some noise to be injected into the signal.
I have zero need of any sort of optical  display on my preamps. (or amps)
However I DID add a pencil lead thin strip of white material in the knob groove, on down over the face to allow a quick easy visual of the volume position. I also have one on the selector knob.
Did the same thing to my Audio Research Sp-15 knobs.
And prior to those on my Adcom 750 preamp.
Then, at a glance, from across the room I can see the position.

Just a weird question about that SP3 display....  Where do you source that part?   Would you be willing to give me a part number?

Cheers!

I agree with Elizabeth . This is why I'm so glad that the BCD-1 has a turnoff display mode  :thumb: good call.

I vote no display, other than where required for functionality (e.g. BDP).

The simpler the better!

+2!  The BP26 is fine just the way it is, no nonsense with everything you need in a 2 channel preamp.  Well, maybe replace one of the two single end outputs with a second balanced output.

I wouldn't like to see a display on a two channel Bryston amplifier, although I find the displays on current Bryston products to be too small.
