new visatons from parts express
« on: 20 Sep 2012, 10:44 pm »
received an e-mail from PE about a new shipment from Visaton, some designed (?) for open baffle.  Inasmuch as I'm starting 2 new projects and there not being any reviews of these on their site, can anyone shine some light here?  I could use both an 8" and 5", either mid or FR. prices appear very attractive.
thanks all.  :scratch:

There is various speakers in this link you post.
If you are refering to the BG20_8 :

It seems more peaky than the B200 in the mid and hi, it had a whizzer cone and cheap steel basket and are modeled to guitar, organ and pro-sound, hence the low price.

If you can afford use a notch filter it will do;

In general you can rely on a high consistency of individual Visaton drivers. Most of the offered drivers have been manufactured for years or even decades. I bought four of the cheap FRS5 drivers at different times from diffferent vendors and found the frequency responses within a +/-1 dB band.
I still use the W250 paired in H frames - a very affordable solution for small rooms and lower SPL demands. TSP are almost perfect and while lacking pole vents or vented spiders, there is no chuffing or other air noise.
From the W xxxS drivers I know the W 130S. After treating the steel basket with a generous amount of bitumen mat it was a fine OB midwoofer usable from 400-2000 Hz

Odd that the B200 isn't there...  :scratch:
Obviously PE is importing the "lower" half of the Visaton product range, not the "serious" drivers. From some distance the BG 20 without the whizzer looks like a B200. There are a few proposals which combine the B200 with two discectomised BG20 as helper "woofers". As stand-alone fullranger I found the BG20 unbearable.

Some of the xmax specs on the woofers seem a bit optimistic. Might be xlim..or xdamage :wink:
Glad they are expanding though, might be some gems in there.

That's right. But in most cases you can find the specific values in the technical data on www.visaton.de/en.
Look at the W250 for instance: +/−10 mm is given as "Excursion limit". From "Height of front pole-plate = 6 mm" and "Height of winding = 12 mm" you get Xlin = +/- 3 mm.
