Here's a pair of A25's I rescued from a university classroom that was being remodelled:

Check the woofer terminals, they probably have fallen apart and need to be repaired, which is the one flaw these old speakers will have. the problem is that the flex leads going to the voice coil may short out on the cast aluminum frame (both need to do this to cause a short) so at least you should open them up and check it out.

What Marantz tuner and integrated is that, and the TT looks like a Technics belt drive?

Thanks, Wayner.  I have never taken the back off.  The speakers sound great so I have just left well enough alone. The Marantz Integrated is a 1060 and the tuner is a 112.  The table is a technics - a SL-Q200 (works great). Probably not the greatest Technics ever made? The 112 is mine - never parted with it.  I was trying to recreate my college days system - got pretty close - except for the table.  I had a Phillips GA212 in those days. I have thought about selling it all but hang on to it for sentimental reasons.

The Phillips was my first "real" turntable too.

I had a flex lead on a tweeter (Seas 87H, used on the Dynaco A-25) fatigue and break.  It is nearly impossible to attach a new flex lead to the varnished voice coil without damaging the dome.   Soldering would be difficult as if the joint is too large it would impede the mechanical motion of voice coil by rubbing against the magnet top plate.  With some scraping via an x-acto knife and some conductive epoxy, the tweeter works again as before and the resistance through the coil matches a good tweeter.   Not a fun repair.

The voice coil on a H086 is replaceable, but you'd have to find one on ick-bay, and then you might as well use the one you buy as the replacement. The tweeter assembly is glued together and I had an H086 (A25XL) fall apart, but held together (but out of alignment, concentrically) by the magnet structure.

I do have a spare, working H087 if someone is in a pinch. I also have a complete set of H086 tweeters that work, but they are 4 ohm.

The back doesn't come off, you'll have to take out the woofer. I've repaired several of these and I do have an instruction sheet how to fix them. Look for a metal ring on the woofer's flex wires. You may also discover that the wire terminal has fallen to pieces but still held somewhat together by the soldering of the speaker wire and the flex wire. If you do not have soldering skills, this may require some help from someone who does. It's kind of scary doing it. The alternative is to leave it alone, but there is the concern.........

Hard place and a rock, I thinks......

Which woofers are you referring to?
A25 Clone Speakers (RR-1004)
Dynaco A25 (Seas 25 TV-EW)- Alnico Magnet
Dynaco A25XL(Seas 25 F-EW)
I have to say thinks for mentioning this, I am in the process of replacing the old Wicon 8uf cap in my A25XL’s and I inspected the flex lead and saw that one of those plastic grommets going through the basket had separated causing a possible future short.   Besides that the flex lead looked good.

I'm referring to the old woofers either out of an A25 or A25XL. The wire terminal assembly was riveted together (rivet having a hole in it to pass the wire of the flex) and perhaps was riveted to tightly together. Over time that assembly has come apart. Almost every Dynaco speaker that I have seen has this problem.

BTW, this thread is directionless, so what ever you want to chime in on......
