Mounting a tonearm to new plinth
« on: 18 Sep 2012, 06:50 pm »
I've got a new to me Technics SP10.  The plan is to make a new plinth out of BB ply and mount a Syntec S220 tonearm, primarily to hold a Denon DL 102 (all 13 grams of it).  I may add another low mass tonearm later.
My question is where do you put it?  The arm is 170mm from the pivot to the center of the end of the arm.

Also, what height should it be at?  Level with the record?

... still need some help here.  Wayner?  John TCG? Neo? Laura? Oh why have you abandoned a poor, ignorant record spinner who comes seeking knowledge?

The arm has a mounting distance of 205mm, spindle to center of mounting hole.  The hole is 7/8". You might want to consider armboard(s) as part of your plinth design to facilitate changing arms.  This arm will be close to the platter so you should check the mounting hole location before you design the armboard.

Thanks Neo.  :thumb:   That was just what I needed.  I'll make sure to build in a removeable armboard or two.
By the way, where did you get the info?

I'm not familiar with the arm.   They're usually right with arm info.  For your sake I hope so.
