I found one of these in a shop for $400 fully functional.

That seems like a steal to me. Am I off base?

I used to own a KD 500. Nice table.  The LVX arm though is probably showing signs of common wear in the horizontal bearings.
A person in NC (BigBill, AK forum)has been able to change out that bearing assembly for some pretty hi-spec ball race types. He has a modified LVV arm on one of his custom tables. Performs in an outstanding manner now.  For what can be bought new these days in DD tables, the money spent looks good to me.

Had one years ago with a Pioneer carbon fiber arm.  Did a lot of listening on that baby.

Excellent table, but the arm is the limiting factor.  There are some nice arms that would fit that pattern, like an Ittock, Alphason 100, or Zeta.  Depends on what cart you want to use on it.  A high end MC would need another arm IMO.  I had one of those on my LP 12 for awhile; MMs and some HOMCs sound good.  I had a Signet and an Adcom on there with good results.  That table would be right at home with a great arm.  It's a step up from the KD-500.

The armboard is a little tricky to make cause it's round.  You can make them out of 1/2 or 1/4" hardwood and use 3/8" nylon standoffs to raise it to the right height.  Stock armboard is 1" thick.  The standoff fits perfectly in a little recess around the bolt sleeve in the plinth.  I think it's better than stock.  I would guess that the table alone, in good condition, would be worth it.  Right now I have an Alphason 100S/Sony MC XL-2 on my KD-500 and it sounds great.
