Have any carpentry skills? Tools?. For the price of a sheet of 3/4" Baltic birch, you can build a very serviceable unit. It's fairly simple bookshelf construction. Plans can be had in a myriad of places. Just modify the dimensions to accommodate LPs.Doc
Do you have a Target nearby? $69.99 plus tax.http://www.target.com/p/target-home-6-cube-horizontal-organizer/-/A-13217324I have this for my LP storage. Don't have near 500 yet, but I figure one of these can hold ~325-350 albums. I only own 120 titles, but with multiple album titles, I have about 160 LPs. I have 2 cubes filled, and a 3rd cube about 1/4 full. My closest Ikea is 6 hours away. My closest Target is 4 minutes, if I have to wait on the light. Kevin T

I use Expedit myself and like them a lot, but another very nice option that is shippable is www.lpbin.com. IKEA stuff is simply not packaged to ship, thus very expensive when they do.
Years back I bought a pile of Target modular Sauder units for my LPs. I have 6,000 Lps in them.I now limit my LP collection to only what fits in the shelves I now own.I learned my lesson last time i had to move!!!
Kewl! The same price as the Ikea stand but with a backing, which has always been the bugaboo with the Expedit, you either have uneven lp's or need to install a stop of some kind. And if you need more upright storage, they also have the vertical unit:http://www.target.com/p/target-home-6-cube-vertical-organizer/-/A-13217293
