Exodus Amplifier Update
« on: 7 Jun 2004, 03:13 pm »
LC Audio has just released the sync module for the ZapPulse digital modules.   These are going to be a standard part on all Exodus amplifiers rather than an option and the price has increased to reflect that.

For those who have already purchased an amplifier I'm offering a free upgrade rather than sticking you for the the upgrade charge.

The sync modules allow adjustment (internal only at this time) for either 500Khz or 1Mhz.   It lowers emissions and removes a slight high frequency noise that is the byproduct of modules running at slightly different frequencies in some units.

Kevin,

Will this delay getting my amps out today?

BTW, thank you for adding it without charging anything additional.

It will if you want the sync modules.   I didn't know about the availability of the sync modules until an email this morning otherwise I would have let you know earlier.

My apoligies.....    The good part is that you will save $300 if you want to wait a couple more weeks.

Kevin,

Is just one clock sync module added for each stereo amp - meaning both digital amp boards are being driven by one clock.

Also, will it be possible to buy the clock sync module as a seperate DIY part from your website?

Thanks

Hi Kevin -

Will you be selling the sync module by itself for your diy customers?  If so has the availability date & pricing set yet?

Thx!  Todd

Kevin,

I'll wait here for them...I've waited a loong time to get a new amp; 2 more weeks (or whatever) won't kill me.

Sounds to me Lars found something worth having on the amp...if it's now standard. Ditto George/Zybar's sentiments on not charging more for it.

Email me new ETA when you can...I'll assume 6/13 no longer valid for my stereo unit.

TheChairGuy:

No problem.... I'll let you know a new ETA when I have the sync modules in hand.

tsjdesign:

Yes.... the 2-channel sync module will be about $100 (parts only) and I don't yet have availability except to say I've placed an order and they should ship from Denmark this week.

StevenACNJ:

Yes.... one sync unit will handle a 2-channel amp.   The multichannel version is much more costly.   I'm not sure of all the reasons why at the moment but there will be a version for up to 8 channels that for about $330 retail.

The reason for the high cost based on LC Audio is as follows:

Quote

"The main reason for the relative high price is the cable assemblies,
which are of very high HF noise immunity, and the reason why the module can work with high stability at all. These high frequency cables are
a very expensive component."

Kevin,

How are things going?

Do you have an ETA?

I am hosting a gathering for the NYC Audio Circle group on July 17th and would love to be able to let everybody hear the amps.

George,

The sync boards shipped last week from Denmark and should arrive this week.   It should only take me a few days to install and ship them so I'm hoping to get all the units shipped late this week or early next.

Kevin,

Just checking to make sure the boards arrived and you are shipping this week.

If it goes out this week, I will be able to let others hear them at our gathering on the 17th.

Yes.... I spent the weekend installing them and I have several amplifiers in the testing phase right now.    All open orders for amps should ship tomorrow.

The first units are shipping without the "official" manual.   I'm still working on some details in the manual and didn't want to hold up shipping over this.   Copies of the finished manuals will follow the amplifier in a couple weeks.

Kevin,

Couple of questions:

1. Are the clock sync modules LC Audio XO3 clocks?
2. How are you powering the clocks? I remember a previous post that you had torroidal transformers on order with a  12V secondary that would feed into the Preditor power supply to power the clock. Did those trannies come in or are you using something else like an LC Audio clock power supply?

Thanks

They are not real tough.  One power switch, and IEC power input, RCAs, XLRs and speaker binding post.   If you have trouble I'll be really worried.  ;-)

The only real concerns I have are that these are non-switchable 110V operation only.   The fuse is a 8A fast blow.   I've tested all the amps on a 5A fast blow and no problems so they shouldn't pop the fuse unless there is a problem.  There is an extra fuse in the fuse drawer.

I'll have the manual done by the end of next week.  It isn't anything special but gives a few details about operation, technology and standard manual mumbo jumbo.
