USB jrmc17 vs apple tv iTunes
« on: 14 Sep 2012, 02:30 pm »
Hi All,

I currently use jrmc17 on a pc via USB into my dac. I'm considering connecting my apple tv to my dac and streaming to it, which I would have to do from iTunes.

I prefer jrmc17 over iTunes from of for sound.  If I go the applets route, will I get the iTunes sound?

Also, my files are either AAC 256 or alac 16/44.1 are there any limitations via iTunes/appletv I need to know about?

Thanks

James

JRiver cannot natively stream to an AirPlay-enabled device, Airport Express or Apple TV and will require the third party software Airfoil from Rogue Amoeba to do so.  Using Airfoil will also require that you do not bypass the Windows Mixer with WASAPI or ASIO.

Most file formats (WAV, AIFF, ALAC, FLAC, AAC, MP3) will stream to the Apple TV, but anything greater than 16/48 will be downsampled.  According to Apple TV users on various forums, the new apple TV will upsample everything to 16/48 while the Airport Express will stream files bit perfect (up to the 16/48 limitation).
