Two compact subs for stereo? $400 to $420?
« on: 11 Sep 2012, 02:32 am »
Was thinking of adding two subwoofers to my stereo speakers. Need a tight and musical subwoofer. The room is not big, average sized.

What are my options for the $400 price range (that's for the pair)

1. Tight bass
2. Ported or sealed
3. line level or speaker level connections
4. Looking for quality driver and powered amp. (ie BASH, Class D or A/B)

Right now the Outlaw M8 seems to be the front runner? What other subs have YOU used for stereo (not HT) that sounded great for a low budget.

I really like my B&W ASW300's and they meet your requirements to a T.  Only problem is that they're discontinued, but do show up on eBay on a regular basis.

Thanks for the suggestion. Just cannot find that one out there. What price point are we talking?
Right now I am looking at some Polk and Velodyne. HSU and SVS just out my reach for the prices
they ask.

these used to sell for ~$200 shipped, but it seems they have gone up in price.  a bit above your budget, but still excellent for the money.

yamaha yst-sw315:

i have a pair of their precursors, (sw305's), and while not quite like my vmps larger subs, they are still quite decent...

I am looking at these two now. The Yamaha has surprising reviews. I wonder how tight the bass sounds and how musical it integrates for stereo listening, if one were to buy a pair.

Thanks alot for the suggestions...

the yamaha yst sw315's are servo controlled, and they have a switch for movies and music.  while it won't plumb the depths like massive mondo expensive subs, it is neither massive mondo or expensive, either!     for me, this is about the only thing in your price range i would be looking at...  when i had to put my vmps' into storage for a couple years, due to my living situation, i used my yst sw305's in a room ~16x24, crossed over to a pair of coincident victory's, and it was a worthwhile improvement.  definitely musical, and w/no muddy "boom"...
