Heard Agnes Obel? You should!
« on: 10 Sep 2012, 04:20 pm »
A friend recently turned me onto Agnes Obel.  And I love her!  Her music is beatifully simple and can be whimsical or haunting.  She's a hottie too!  Here are a couple of samples:

Anyone else into her?

There are very few female vocalists I like, for example Adele makes me want to commit hari Kari with a kitchen knife, but this is one I can enjoy. Resisted the urge to buy the download and will get the album.

She must be some kind of witch because I absolutely had to have this. I used my record store points today and picked this up. Very bewitching, mellow, serene, not my usual fare at all. Plus I can use this as a reference album of sorts for vocals to show off my Maggies. I'm going to fall asleep to this tonight.

Thanks for the heads up  :thumb:

Glad you like it!

I think the piano sound is one of the most realistic I've heard on a pop album.  Not quite 'in the room' with you but in the very next room.  Quite a feat considering the really bad piano recordings usually heard in pop.

Yeah, the piano sounds excellent, and she has a whimsical sort of style. Really good speaker food. Her lyrics are actually pretty haunting as you mentioned, but in a good way. A girlfriend of mine sings/piano's a bit so I've sent this her way too. Actually, two, now that I think of it, the other one would like this too.

I would much rather listen to Adele. I guess that's what makes us all different!

To each his own, but I agree with the tens of millions of Adele fans around the world that she is great.  I usually don't even like to listen to Top 100 sellers or the most popular musicians/bands.

I think it's just those few inescapable songs that drive me up the wall. She's probably great.

RE:  Adele and Obel - I like them both and you can too!  Who is 'better' is pointless.  Apples and oranges my friends.

A more emotional option to Adele and Obel. Evancho dont use AutoTune or lipsinc.

I'd think I'd like to hear Jackie Evancho with AutoTune.

I have to question how much true emotion an 8 year old has experienced.  No doubt JE is very talented with a lovely voice but I've always found her diction to be horrendous.  But again, we're comparing apples and oranges both in singing styles and musical genres.

Pardon the out of topic again.
JE study music and travel to sing in a large array of countries, but I mean say the emotions she move in people who hear her sing, not his 11y/o life experience, which Iam sure had more thrills than my over 5 decades of life in this big rock.

The problems you mention will be cleared with age as she had just 11 or 12 y/o now.
She transformed the Whitney Houston joke song I Will Always Love you in something decent and pleasant to listen(here sing in Italian):
