I had the pleasure of visiting the factory today and actually doing what most of you can only dream of. I listened to DSD master tapes of various recordings (one of which I was actually in attendance), through Maggie 20.1s no less!! It was an experience to say the least. I also got to hold in my hand a small run of the Blak Pearl speaker cable. I'm not going to go on at length about my day there, but I will say that there is a huge difference between the sound of a compact disc and that of a master tape, especially a DSD master tape. The difference in clarity and midrange and treble cleanliness was astonishing.

LordCloud, I am very curious.  Why should a master tape sound any different/better whatsoever than an exact digital cd copy????  I can't say this makes any sense to me.

As far as joining, we have a temporary site up at Yahoo groups: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/utah_audio_enthusiasts/. You can go there and register, and we'll be more than happy to have all that can join. We are planning more great "field trips" including a visit to what I believe is the demo home of Jim Fosgate in a couple of weeks. I myself would love to meet all of the audiophiles in Utah if I could! I also forgot to mention that we listened to an experimental dipolar speaker technology that was most impressive in it's soundstaging.

As far as the difference between the master and a cd copy, all I can say is that to my ears and I would imagine all in attendance, there was a definate difference between the two. The cd copy sounded more like the type of audio I am used to hearing and the maters just sounded better, in every way. But as I said before the thing that most stood out in my mind was the absolute clarity, on some cuts especialy there was a more defined sense of the acoustic. You also need to understand that the master tapes as far as I know were pure DSD. And some of them were four channel DSD.
