V Link Mk2

Hi,I'm just starting to try to learn more about DAC's.I'm real old school,so here is a stupid question. While trying to dig out my old albums Iv'e stumbled around to the fact that You Tube has just about every thing I own on vinyl on the computer. If I bought a DAC such as the V-Link Mk2 would You Tubes sound quality be acceptable to stream over to my hi-fi system?I was also thinking of maybe that Music Streamer 2,that little red (cigarette sized) box for about !59.00.Any lesson from any one out there would be appreciated, but remember,I still get dumped on for not having a cell phone kind of guy......thanks Mark Korda.

YouTube audio quality used to be some of the worst streaming audio available, but depending on the file format and audio encoding, many of the posted videos offer a selection of different video resolutions.  The audio quality will increase with increased video resolution.  Selecting 720p or 1080p (if available) video resolution can give you audio quality from 128 kbps to 192 kbps which would be competitive with many Internet radio stations at that bit rate.

And yes, a number of USB DACs including the MF V-Link MkII or the HRT Music Streamer 2 would be all you would need.

So depending on the video resolution available for each video, you can experience enjoyable playaback, but not quite up to the quality level of your LPs or uncompressed CDs.

Because there is no standard for YouTube quality, you will also unfortunately encounter many bad sounding videos containing static, crackling, overloading, distortion and clipping.  So just be patient, and bookmark those that you like and sound good.  All of the browsers will let you add subfolders to the Favorites or Bookmarks so you can easily maintain an organized "library" of Artist > Album.
