Fred good snatch. Mullard will do the trick.  If not available Matushita or Electro Harminox gold pin. I found the Teles to be a bit too much on top with the GE 211. Just too detailed.
BTW what bias setting are you using with the 211 ? Makes a world of difference.

Any suggestions on a good 12ax7 to go with it?

I just put a pair of new production Genelex Gold Lion 12AX7s in my phono stage. I only have about 50 or so hours on them,  but so far I like them a lot more than my RCAs with round, top getter. Dead quiet, warm, well balanced and punchy. I have my fingers crossed that they don't crap out on me. Wish me luck!  (I have been having bad luck with most of the new production 12AX7s )

I have ordered some NOS GE tubes for now, and might have a look at the Elrog's later. :)

Anyone knows if Elrog is still making the 211's or are they know only making the 845's?

Seems like they still do the 211's:

I have also sent a request to Cayin.

ELROG is now mading 211 tubes, a very impressive big triode with 100W plate:

Hi FULLRANGEMAN and all Audio Circle members.
May I ask what is the main advantage to go with those BIG tubes (211-845)
other than more power?
The Vietnamese tube amplifier manufacturer ThiVan is pushing the 845 for his amplifiers.
To me, they are big, expensive and generate lots of heat, that's why I am asking if there is an advantage.

You got me pal.  :thumb:
Otherside more power there is no advantage over the 300B or similar tube, IMO.
More power means a good big triode has bass and treble(are balanced).
300B has no bass and treble are attenuated.

Hi FULLRANGEMAN and all Audio Circle members.
Thanks for the explanation.
If the 211 and 845 have more power and they are better in the bass and highs, then, why go with 300B?

This is a very important question. Some 300B owners may explain more in detail than I here.
But say the legend that the 300B has only midrange, but what she have is beyond this world, a very addictive sound quality.
I had a vague idea on it listening to these videos:

The midrange has a golden ambience in these recordings.

There are a couple of modern 300b - Sophia Electric Royal Princess and, even more, the twice as expensive Takatsuki TA-300b - that have excellent bass and highs along with the "magical" midrange typical of the best 300b. The sound of the Takatsukis is smooth and liquid and dynamic. These reviews say it better than I ever could

GSM18439,
Thanks for inform, seems these modern 300B dont sound alike the vintage WE300B but have corrected the freq linearity.
It is good to know the Takatsuki is this good, I would be nice a comparative test with the 300B Emission Labs, hence both are expensives.
I will read these links in the weekend.

Since the 300Bs were brought up, I can't help but ask.

Has anyone compared NOS EL34 vs 300B?
Which has the sweeter mids?

This 211B tube had the usual 100W plate dissipation or only 75W as the 845C??

Most 211 amps are intend to use only the 100W plate dissipation... in this case a 75W plate can be dangerous.
I'm a bit confused here... All of the specsheets I've read for 211's (RCA, GE, PSvane) say that the max power dissipation is 75W for Class-A operation, 100W for Class-B, etc... When people say "this is a 100W plate tube" and such, what do they mean?

Thx.

Miguel

I have see some Shuguang models w/75W plate as 845C.

75W in Class A means in Single Ended Triode use, not PP(Class B).
"this is a 100W plate tube" seems a generic term, it may even be related to Class C Radio/Telephony use, it necessary carefully read the datasheet.

I would keep with EL34, it had great SQ also in Triode, but in a diffrent way from 300B and the price is very cheap.
However EL34 had a sound signature, its sound is easily recognizable.

OBS.: Rumours Elrog will do 300B too and this Hifi Statement confirm it.
