I was thinking of picking up a 180 gr vinyl copy of Amy Winehouse : Lioness: Hidden Treasure, has anyone heard it and if what was the SQ like. Thanks for any input.

Here's an LP preview, if it helps:

I read that the proceeds have been donated to a charity that helps children with fatal diseases.

Man, she slays me singing Back to Black.  She's a natural and would have made a great jazz singer.

I have the CD and play it on my main system for friends since it is accessible music that many can enjoy. I will pick up the vinyl, now that I know it exists ( I wasn't paying attention )

She has a strong soul. A loss for sure. RIP Ms. Amy.

Hey guys,

Well, it just so happens I had Back to Black and Hidden Treasures sitting in my wishlist at Amazon and my daughter picked them both up for my birthday a week or so ago.

OK, Back to Black.
I was a little worried about the running time at around 20mins on Side A. Some will disagree but I've found the shorter the running time (as in 17mins or under) the more open the sound is. Well, this side suffers from that. The sound quality is OK, highs are decent but not overly extended. The issue I have is everything is stuck right in the middle. Very limited depth and nearly zero stereophonic imaging. Other than that, it's OKish, not great, not horrible, just OK.
Side B is running about 15mins. This side is just about like Side A. Just OK but not great. Everything is still stuck in the middle.

Overall, it's a $15 piece of vinyl.

Pressing Quality - 6/10
Music - 7-8/10

Hidden Treasures
This one is a two disk release. Running times are much shorter at between 12 and 15 minutes per side. Although things have gotten better as far as openness, I'm hearing issues with the treble region. I'm not sure if I've got a pressing from a worn mother or if it's just less than great mastering. You can hear that it's more 'open' with better placement and depth but there's something going on in the sibilant region. That and the highs are muted again. No shimmer or air in the cymbals at all. This rolls off at about 8k just like Back to Black.

Pressing Quality - 6/10
Music - 7-8/10

This is really disappointing. The last dozen or so 'rock/pop' albums I've bought just plain suck or are a disappointment at best. I wish the pressing plants would hire somebody with ears.

....just in case you were wondering, this is my vinyl rig, the Opera LP5 with the Dynavector 507 MkII arm

I was running the Yamamoto cart for these albums

I can second Scott F's opinion on Back To Black - it's an album, all right.
I listened to it once and that was it.

Agreed on the sound quality of at least the mass version of Back to Black.....but, aside from the sonic quality (which I realize as snooty audiophools is hard for us!), it's a pretty soulful album.

I hated it my first listen, probably turned off by the sonics as snooty me often does , but further listens really did appreciate the soul of er voice and tunefulness of the cuts.  I like it - despite the mediocre sonics.

Sound quality is at least better than the last (mass pressed) Ben Harper album bought....f'in 320 mp3 for Ben Harper?!?!?!?!  This guy used to have some sound quality previously....sold out just like Beck did.  Good tunes - but sound quality so bad I can't get beyond it - at least Amy Winehouse Back to Black was barely good enough sound quality to be listenable.

rant/off - John :)

I have both Lioness and Back to Black.  Far prefer the sound quality and the artistry on Lioness.  What a loss.

If only I were her producer.  She had the raw skills of a composer and singer next to nobody.
