Help With HP Crapware Issue
« on: 12 Aug 2012, 10:51 pm »
I am a Mac user taking care of a sick relative and trying to use the internet. Was having connection problems which I traced to a piece of crapware called HP Game Center, which somehow locks out everything else on the network. Thought I had it beat but then the problem returned and sure enough, the crapware had launched itself again and closing the window solved it again.

I have enough on my mind without dealing with this bullsh**. How to I rid myself of this? I was given instruction to get into Control Panel- Programs; only problem is, there is nothing called HP Game Center in the programs list. How do I get rid of this?

A few options if HP Game Center isn't listed in Control Panel - Programs - Uninstall a program.

1) Use the Start Button (Windows Orb) then click on All Programs, scroll down to see if the HP Game Center is listed and if there is an uninstall option.

2) Go to the program folder and see if there is an uninstall icon.

3) No program folder? Do a Control-Alt-Delete (all three keys at the same time), open the Task Manager to find hpgamecenter.exe (or something like that) then use Windows Search to find the folder it is in. Look for the Uninstall icon.

4) HP Game Center may be running as a Service, type in services.msc in the "Search programs and files" box, if HP Game Center is listed then stop the program and then right click and set it to not start.

5) First locate the folder where hpgamecenter.exe is located as in #3, then using the Task Manager stop the program.
Then go back to the the folder location and re-name the file to hpgamecenter.exe.old

Thanks. Will keep these solutions in mind just in case. So far so good after a hard restart.

I've used the "stop services" trick with other HP bloatware from printer installs on several occasions, it works IF you can find all the services that junk starts.  Just uncheck the box that allows auto-start on a new boot.
