I'm building an audio pc mainly as a source and I thought it might be a good idea to make it a Real Time Analyzer as well.  I would also think this would be great for laptops, (used as a mobile thing to help others in their room).  Maybe this is all old hat but it just came to me. :)

I know NOTHING about how to do this, only that I want to. ;)  I thought others might be interested in the same thing so, I was hoping some people could list software, mic's, or tips on how to do set up a pc-based RTA.

Many thanks for advice!

Mike posted this link a while back.  Don't know how to use it, but like he said, "the price is right."

Whenever I get a laptop I will be doing something along these lines as well.  Good post.

Thanks, Max...
I just noticed 'proudx' mentioned TrueRTA, in the 8th Nerve Circle.
Also well-priced...

What kind of mic do you need for this?  Will it depend on your sound card?  Anyone hooked up a setup with a PC?

Hi Carlman,

This is probably more than what you're looking for, but it's the best one I know of.

I use ETF and it's great. $150 from http://www.acoustisoft.com.

I also use ETF (Ethan was actauuly the one who showed me it).

Good product, but could use a little better documentation (although nowhere near as bad as the Behringer docs).

I'm one of those others that this topic benefits.  Glad you brought it up.  I'm just starting an audio server project that I hope to have completed by the end of summer.  Motherboard and cooling fans so far.  No doubt that RTA could be a real help.
