Technics SL 1500 find

Wayner, should have listened to you long ago!  :duh:
Was looking for a second table for my vintage system and settled on a Technics. After trying to get all kinds of things, I found an SL 1500 in Epray for little money. Long story short, for $91.00 plus shipping, ($112.00 total) I recieved a pristine table perfectly packed!! I removed the OM Shure cart, installed my spare Clearaudio Aurum Classic Wood, conected to my reference system and WOW! :eyebrows: I am having a difficult time justifying my Clearaudio Redmotion, Satisfy arm and Maestro Cartridge ... the 1500 will be moved to the vintage system this weekend to share time with the Luxman PX 100 and will be amplified by the classsic "Japanese McIntosh" known as Sansui AU 717  :D. I am not sure why back in the day I thought, "Technics by Panasonic ... how can that be Hi Fi?" 37 years later I found out!

bogiedr, I too thought that Technics was just plain "junk" until I bought mine in 2007. I know many people think it's just a "disco" table, incapable of producing anything near audiophile quality, but everyday I just shake my head in disbelief. Nice find for you!

I bought my 1500 in 1976. Like many of us I put it to rest in a closet in 1985. I took it out when i considered going back to vinyl 2 years ago after 25 years ! and it worked as if it never stopped. I have the same Stanton 681 EEE and V15 iv cartridges and the combination is to die for. Last year when my daughter bought her house I gave it to her and she is now enjoying it. I kept my other Technics the SL5100 along with my 1200 which is of more recent vintage. As you must have guessed I am a Technics guy. Living in the tropics I will not buy a belt driven TT because rubber does not fear well in these climes with the humidity....

One tweak I will recommend is the J A Michell clamp. It comes with a felt washer which goes over the spindle so that the record is isolated from the platter and clamped for stability. Some have criticized the Technics platter for unwanted resonances. This in my view makes this complaint a non issue.

Folks, I have to tell you, I find myself playing the 1500 more than the Luxman and the Clearaudio combined!! I love this thing! Seems like a perfect fit for the Sansui / Klipsch set up. wayner, just wish I had tried one much sooner!!

My SL1200MKII (2007 model) is my everyday player. Im playing mat-go-round now, but I always enjoy the speed accuracy, the lack of any mechanical noise between selections, and the ability to change VTA on the fly. You can also change from 33 1/3 to 45 at the touch of a button....

I'm very glad you are enjoying it. Oh, the other good news is there is no belt to replace.......
