If you're running MS Security Essentials, that might be the problem. If so, turn off "real-time protection" before running your scan and turn it back on when the scan is finished. You will probably need to restart your computer before going through this process.
The problem you described sounds like the same scanning issue I have. The solution I've discovered is to turn off my virus scanning software (MS Sec. Ess.). My very uniformed understanding is that the database application used by LMS (mySQL) does not play well with many virus scanners. In my case, when I start a music scan with virus scanning on, LMS will start the scan, scan a few tracks and then abort before finishing. Maybe it would help you if you turned off whatever virus protection you're using. That's all I know. I hope it it helps. I'd hate to see someone walk away from the Touch. It's an awesome product.
I have not had this problem. My Norton AV does not like the Logitek server program, but i just turn it off.More from a morale support position, "Get this to work!!". No CD player, transport, etc. that I have used sounds as good as the PC => Touch => DAC combo. Eliminating the issues that the electro-mechanical interface of a CD reader/transport/deck interject into the music signal has amazingly positive effects.Hang in there! You will be rewarded!!Cheers,Geary
Have you checked the "Diagnostics" tab within LMS? It should show you/test the ports it's wanting to use. Then you can double check your AV software to ensure it's not looking at those ports. It sure seems like a security conflict of some sort.
Logic would dictate that if there is a security conflict or port blocking then it wouldn't be able to scan any files.Steve
Open "Settings->Information" in the web interface and have a look at the log files linked there. They should show which file causes trouble when scanning.
Ah, progress! Keep in mind I'm not sure what I'm looking at, but I did see a file listed there but there wasn't any message about a problem. So I deleted that file (I do have a backup so I won't completely lose it) and ran a scan again. This time LMS did not stop or shut down. Instead of the previous 400 or so files it scanned, this time its reporting 1299 tracks. When I look at my Music folder properties on my computer it says 1695 files, so I'm still not sure LMS got everything. Is there an easy way to tell, other than manually counting all my music files?
.......I'm going to try it on my partner's laptop (Windows 7, different antivirus program [some free program]) and see what happens.
I have read comments by posters at the Squeezebox Forum about scanning issues with files that LMS didn't like. They usually had something to do with embedded artwork or some other tagging issue.
Looks like I'm getting on the right track (no pun intended ). It appears that the issue is LMS quits if it runs into a file it doesn't like (why wouldn't it just skip it and move along? )I'm still not sure it scanned everything, but at least it didn't abort or shut down.Keep the input/suggestions coming.
I just noticed that if the collection is large, viewing the scanner log file via Settings->Information in the web interface doesn't show the entire scanner log file. You can see the entire file by doing Start Menu->All Programs->Logitech Media Server->Control Panel, choosing the "Advanced" tab and clicking on the "Show scanner log" button. The entries in the log should show if anything unusual happened during the scan.If you're not sure about what's in the scanner log file, you might save a copy, zip it up and attach it to a post.

Scanning the exact same music files? You don't have a port-blocking (firewall) problem, since you were able to browse the library (the part of it that was successfully scanned, anyway) and play music on the Touch. It's possible that an anti-virus problem could cause the scanner to fail by blocking access to certain types of database file, but I doubt it. Usually, it would fail immediately during the process. That's really easy to troubleshoot, though, just by disabling the AV during a scan and seeing if it completes. As andy_c suggests, examine the scanner.log file. BTW, this is only created when you run a full "clear library & rescan everything" type of scan. The "new & changed" scan takes place within the server and problems there are logged to the server.log file. You should be running full "clear library" scans until you're able to scan your whole music library. Hopefully, by examining the scanner.log you can identify any problem file. If the scanner chokes on a different file each time that it's run, then the problem can be a lot more difficult to trace.
