I'm new to the digital hi res download. I found few albums that I would like to purchase from HD tracks 192/24. I never listen to music on my PC at all. Do I still need to get one of those HI RES FLAC player to be able to transfer the songs to my hard drive that I use with the BDP-1 ? Or I can just download the albums to my PC, and copy to the hard drive and play them on the BDP-1 ?

The BDP-1 needs a DAC to output to in order to hear music - regardless of the resolution of the files.

There is no technical reason why a BDP-1 couldn't be connected to a computer based DAC, but I am not sure why you would do that.

Do you own a BDP-1 now?

If so, what DAC are you using with it?

Copy to the HDD connected to the BDP-1, either directly or over the internet connection.

My BDP-1 is connected to the BDA-1, but not to a network or any PC, just to an external HDD. My question was like if I needed a media player like itunes or something else to download the HI RES and play them, but I guess I got my answer from second post, like I can just download directly from the site to my PC, copy to the external HDD, plug in BDP-1 and play it, and no need for additional software on my PC to organise or whatever, since I'll never play it on my PC.

Sorry, misunderstood your question.

Whether it is hi-res or redbook files, you follow the same process to move the files over to your HD attached to the BDP-1.

Just curious, if your BDP-1 is not connected to the network, how are you controlling it?

By the front buttons  and small display ,and the BR2 remote ( not  very practical , but doing the job) very basic configuration.

I admire your patience and dexterity operating the BDP-1 as you do.

If you have an Ipod touch or an Ipad you can control your BDP-1 by connecting an independant router directly to your BDP-1 ethernet input.  Then you connect your Ipod-Ipad to this router and control your BDP-1 using Bryston mini-2 or max interface or better use mpod or mpad which can be downloaded at apple istore.  You then can control your BDP-1 everywhere in your house, even on your patio.  You can have better explaination for this if you search other thread.

You can also use your PC to control the BDP1 with controllers like Gnome or Mozilla Firefox "Minion". There are many threads on this sight explaining all this.

I can get an Ipod Touch and add the Mpod app. My problem is that my PC and my Wi-Fi router are like 20 meters and few rooms away from the BDP-1, and I can't run a CAT5 for all that distance, without getting in trouble with the wife. BDP-1 needs hard wiring from the router. I was wondering if I got one of these gaming wi-fi  receivers that plug into the console via Ethernet cable and receive signal from router from a distance to allow internet connection. Would that solution work with the BDP-1 ?

Any of the Ethernet to WiFi adapters should work fine.

If your particular location has bad WiFi reception, then one of the Powerline Network Adapters would also work.

Great, than I'm set, a Netgear unit, and Ipod Touch. Thanks a lot.

BrysTony

I am using the Netgear adapter recommended by SRB and it works perfectly for me.  You will then be able to control it with your PC as well as an iPhone, iPad or Touch.

Hi

An alternative solution to wifi bridges would be powerline av kits.  Quite simply Plug and play, no setup required.
