its more important to be as sensitive as possible. I do have a tube buffer also that is not doing anything at the moment if the sony fdr x1hd turns out to be route to go..though, they are pricey and I really dont want to spend $200...thoughts??

I agree that an antenna is your best starting point.  For hard-core technical reviews and measurements of the Sony and Sangean HD tuners (and lots of other good FM stuff), look here:

Decided on the Sanyo T-35...will then figure how to get cables run to the attic and try out my old Radio Shack antenna and see whats what...

i have never tried this one; but those i trust who have, say it is wery nice, both in sound and sensitivity.  it certainly looks cool, w/its moving digital readout display!   :thumb:
