Issues with Dell laptop and Furutech GT40
« on: 21 Jul 2012, 04:00 am »
Just bought a Dell laptop/win 7 and a Furutech GT40.
Works great playing back files and streaming audio from audio web pages.
BUT , main purpose was to record vinyl to digital. Hooked up to tape in's and out's on my preamp, ran USB cable (tried 2 brands) to the computer and recorded with Audacity.

Not exactly what I was hoping for. When recording with Audacity and with the recording paused I can hear a 3000Hz whistle about -45db down in level. Played back vinyl recordings are overlaid with a "hashy" effect and between track groove noise is laced with a "squeaky" noise that seems to be modulated with the groove noise. Hooked this unit up to a desktop PC and tried it. A slightly better but still plagued with some noise.

The Dell laptop was adjusted to what was recommended by tips gotten from this site and a few others (turning off various programs, disabling Bluetooth and wi-fi, etc).
Vinyl recorded thru the onboard soundcard of the laptop sounds fine AND sounds fine thru the GT40 played back thru USB.

The dealer is also graciously working on this but has nailed it yet.

USB cables used were an Audioquest and the one included with the unit.

Any idea as to what I might be missing?? :(

Thanks!

Dusty,

I had a similar problem with my new Furutech Esprit DAC and a Dell laptop / Win 7.  I tried everything to no avail.  A few days after my inquiry regarding the recording option not being available, Furutech created new drivers.  I disabled my Realtek playback and recording devices, unistalled the old ADL drivers, and installed the new ADL drivers.  The Furutech recording device showed up in my Sound setup after installing the new drivers.  I would check for a new version of the drivers.
