ipad fried

bought a ipad (original, refurb) from apple approx. 5 months ago. yesterday, the ipad no longer charged correctly and it was no longer recognized in itunes. took it to my local apple store and they confirmed that the problem was likely a bad usb connector and the ipad would need to be replaced. they said i should call apple as the refurb warranty is only 90 days. so i called apple and they stated they will do ummm nothing. so i am now wastebasketing an ipad that i have had for less than 6 months and paid approx $500 for. so uhh yeah... i am not recommending apple products to anyone.

Good to know, cause this never ever happens to other products

If all that is toast is the usb then the other parts are usable.
Look on ebay for a wanted add and maybe you could get money for your unit.

yep, absolutely it does happen with other products. and usually, with other products, the manufacturer will stand behind the product if it falls a few weeks outside of the silly 90 day warranty. but i guess apple really doesnt need to do that as they are selling a bajillion ipads.

I think we all understand your frustration. What i think you should learn from this bad experience is not to buy refurbished Apple products. They are refurbished for a reason.

Also, i think it is wise not to buy any "new" products on Ebay from anyone. I that think many ( not all) otherwise decent retailers use eBay as a way to dump their questionable inventory.

Yes, it sucks, but your 8 weeks past the warranty for a refurb. And your right, they move so much product that they don't need to care.

Not saying its right or makes it any better.

I've bought numerous Apple refurbished products over the years, including a second iPad.  If you bought directly from Apple the warranty is exactly the same as new products, 1 year - not 90 days.  I'd remind them of this.  Good luck with getting a replacement.

I've purchased many things and had terrible support within the warranty period let alone right after it was up. Not with apple, but with many tech companies. Refurbished products unfortunately carry greater risk and you just happened to be one of those cases where most likely the original problem reoccurred. I feel for you, but I'd heard the warranty was one year same as new products ...

Apple Certified. Good as new.
We test and certify all Apple refurbished products and include a 1-year warranty.

cujobob beat me to it. Here is a link to the refurbished iPad page.  Clearly states there is a one year warranty.
