The really important thing it not to reuse passwords, that is the primary reason for hacking forums. People tend to use the same PW on sites such as their bank and others that may have financial or other sensitive data.

If sites are still using DES to encrypt passwords, then it's a slam dunk to expose the entire encrypted database.
