FS: Bottlehead Quickie Battery-Powered Tube Pre-Amp

Up for sale is a very nice condition Bottlehead Quickie.

For those that aren't familiar with the Quickie:

This is a battery-powered tube pre-amp. Mine was factory assembled/wired and was built with the optional transformer mod to allow it to be used as a headphone amplifier particularly well suited to higher impedance cans. My Quickie also includes an extra set of Mullard tubes as well as factory upgraded capacitors.

I have found that the Quickie performs best as a pre-amp with the transformers removed from the circuit and since that is how I've used it, that is how its wired right now. If you want to use it as a headphone amp, I (or you) can easily rewire them into the circuit (two wires needed to be soldered back in place). Try both ways and see what works for your needs.

The Quickie has two inputs, one output, and a standard 1/4 inch headphone jack.

This amp also has a very highly regarded upgrade available from Bottlehead that you might want to try; tons of info on their site and forum.

A word on the tubes in this pre-amp, they are microphonic. If you are running a setup with highly sensitive speakers, you'll hear them ring if you touch the chassis or adjust the volume. If you don't touch the Quickie, they don't ring; you'll have to decide if that bothers you or not. Many users on the Bottlehead forum have been able to find tubes that don't ring and have tried some of the o-rings to help quiet the vibration so those are options. Like I said, if you're not touching it, it doesn't ring, but it does when you do.

I'm asking $100 shipped and paypal'ed CONUS and the unit will ship WITHOUT batteries.

Any EU members that are interested, please PM me, I'll make it worth it to you.

Buyer backed out so this is back up for sale.

I'm also interested in trades for the Hifiman HE-500 or a suitable headphone amp to drive them. Of course I'll come up with cash on my end.

Jeremy,
The Quickie arrived safe and sound!  BTW, you might have mentioned that the GE tubes were a "Bit Microphonic"....Oh, crap...you did.  I am a tube guy and I have never heard tubes sing like that.  I actually have a 1947 RCA portable radio that uses the same power tube.  Not microphonic there, but I am using an RCA 3SR.  Did you forget to put the power cord in the box?

I have it up and running and I am simply amazed. In many ways the quickie bests my Rogue Audio Magnum 99.  Can't wait to get the PJCCS in. (Ordered, arrived and built!)

Thank you for a great transaction, well, except for the missing power cord!  :thumb:

Cheers,
Geary
