NOH with a 8Kohm poweramp..?
« on: 30 May 2004, 11:43 pm »
Hello All,

I'm tempted to try a NOH in my system, but will the input-impedance of my Ice-powerbased poweramp be a problem..?
8Kohms according to the specs..

Thanks,
CH

Which ICE based amp do you have?

I have the TX102 trannies (same as NOH) and a 10 Kohm input amp.

If you have source components that put out 2.0 volts or more, the NOH should be just fine.

Hello!

I have done some testing in the past bit using lowish impedances like 7K or 8K. Once you get the volume level down a few steps from the top (where the effect of the tx102 lowering it's output impedance kicks in) the low impedances are not a problem. You will not want to match a really high output impedance source with that low amp input impedance and also I would not try and use the +6db gain option with low amp input impedances either.

Basic rule is if you have a decent level of gain in the system and a lowish output impedance source (say less than 400 ohms or so) then it should be fine. It is hard to apply direct numbers since one number affects the other - ie. a higher output imp source might be o.k. if you have lots of gain and will be running the tx102's set well below it's top level settings.

Many Thansk!
