FS: Kingrex preamp price reduced to sale pending
« on: 4 Jul 2012, 10:40 pm »
This is a great bang for your buck and simple preamp, highly reviewed by 6Moons a few years ago.

http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/kingrex2/u_3.html

The article reviews a preamp and amp, but this listing is for the preamp only. I have never owned the amp.

I'm clearing out extra equipment, and this one is still in great condition. Functionally perfect, and only a very minor mark on the top left of the faceplate, not visible from a frontal view.

Asking sale pending within continental US. Shipping from 66502.

Read in the review in 6moons and it seems that then think it works best in a high-efficency system...your take..??

Hmm, does that mean you would have been interested a year ago, or do you mean something else?

I just re-read that review.  What I read was that the T20 amp by Kingrex didn't hold up with low-efficiency, but the preamp did just fine when mated with an appropriately powerful amp.  I have high efficiency, so can't comment on pairing with low efficiency.  However, it stands to reason to me that preamp duties shouldn't vary that much in performance between high efficiency and low efficiency applications as long as the amp is up to the task and as long as you have enough gain.  The review says this unit has 12 dB of gain, so as long as that's enough gain with your source to drive your amp to full output,  and as long as your amp has enough power to handle your speaker loads, you should be fine with this unit.

Yes would have been interested a year ago, but spent more to get more instead.

After a couple of inquiries, it seems some think this listing also includes the T20 amp. While the 6moons article reviews both the preamp and the associated amp, this listing is for the preamp only.
