Why does my system sound much better late at night?

i think we are more sensitive at night, when there's less noise around we can notice more improvements.

I wish it was my imagination. For 15 years, 80-95, I was a high-end dealer. Every day was the same. During daytime hours, I got a headache listening to the system, nightime a whole different story.

I tried SS amps, tube amps,line conditioners,over warm sounding speaker wires, everything. It practically drove me nuts trying to solve this problem.

2 reasons:

1. I turn the lights off so with no visual stimuli my acoustic senses are wide open

2. I always enjoy a late evening ice cold - and rather generous - martini, which helps me immerse myself in the music and everything sounds better.

I just realized it is 10:00 PM and time to head to the listening room.

It could be my OCD but I heard a significant improvement last night after cooling off (100's to 80's) in the Chicago area.  Better imaging and staging, higher resolution, darker background etc...
