help! my music source disappeared! O/T sorry.
« on: 22 Jun 2012, 04:06 am »
shaw cable systems just cancelled it's cable FM service. After 12 years, 7 hours a day, I'm left musicless. no more KPLU or KING-FM seattle on my home-built OB.
Has anyone used satellite radio as a source for home service?  I'm really desparate as vancouver has a lousy mix of FM stations, and I've already gone through my cds numerous times.
sorry for the off-topic question, but this is not pretty.
thank you in advance.   maybe i should just move to seattle!

Have you considered an SB Touch?

I've never heard of either station before, but I've now listened to them both via the cool internet radio streams available on the Touch.

KPLU is just *doin' it* right now.  :thumb:

:o after 12 years of free music, I'm getting shell-shocked. now checking out SB. some have complained about home satellite(sirius/xm) reception as poor. thanks for the suggestion anyway. checking it out. KPLU is a treasure, saturdays are fun, sundays too. Piano Jazz and Car Guys. what's not to like?

Don't most radio stations stream through the net now-a-days?

You'd have to turn your PC into a piece of audio equipment, but.....

by cruising amazon, BB etc. I found a lot of 'internet radio/adapter' thingies that plug into my receiver through a cable modem without turning on a computer. almost like free 'over the air' except for the unit cost,($100-200) and no monthly fee like sirius/xm. thousands of stations.
I a 'happy camper' now!  :P :P :P
ps: squeezebox apparently is one of many brands of these.  thanks for the tips!

Shaw Cablesystems was inundated with complaints about termination of their cable FM service. Just notified that they have relented and have put back 6 stations on the lower end of this band, including both KPLU and KING-FM out of Seattle. Life is again good!
