BDA-1 gapping + trigger question
« on: 19 Jun 2012, 05:05 pm »
Hello,

I'm new to the forum, but am enjoying it much!  I just got a BDA-1, and am really enjoying it.  Seem to have run into one issue that I'd like to ask about.  I get intermittent cut-outs of the music stream for 2-5 seconds that I didn't get before with my smaller Beresford DAC.  Coincidence, or could there be some communication issue (I'm running Win 7 PC -> USB -> M2Tech Hiface USB/SPDIF converter -> SPDIF input on BDA-1 -> preamp -> power amp).

Second quick Q - I have a 3.5mm mono +12V trigger out on my preamp.  How can I use the 'bare wire' trigger input on the BDA-1 in conjunction?  I stripped one end but there is only one conducter.

Thanks in advance!

Only when switching between songs or when you are just listening and a song ends and another begins?

Your 3.5mm phone plug cable is probably a coaxial cable and the second conductor is likely a stranded outer shield which should be unbraided and twisted together.

Yes, that sounds about right.  Ill give it a shot and plug in both conductors.  Thanks!

It will gap in he middle of a track, seemingly at random, then restart a few seconds later.

It sounds like the DAC is losing lock on the digital signal.

Thanks James.

Any advice on what to do?  Not sure if the BDA-1 is a likely culprit, or something upstream.  I imaging there could be many variables...but is there any way to test or screen out the BDA-1?
