Minimax phono stage in Brookfield last weekend

Hi folks,
Bill O'Connell of Morningstar paid me a visit this past Saturday for some enjoyable listening with his new Minimax phonostage. It is an impressive piece of iron with similar cosmetics to the Minimax linestage, but more massive, believe it or not.

I thought I had a fairly nice sounding phonostage consisting of an upgraded Lehman Black Cube and Monolithic power supply. My turntable is Rega Planar 25, RB300 tonearm, and Dynavector cartridge. The Mini completely annihilated my Black Cube! There was more slam, more heft, a richer midrange...it was awesome!

And so is Bill. He was not trying to sell me anything. He was only interested in learning how his phonostage sounded in another decent system, and to get another opinion on it before making a decision on launching it as another Morningstar product, besides just having a very nice time sharing some music with another passionate audiophile. I honestly don't know how a phonostage could get any better than this.

Did he give you an idea of target price?  Are you yourself going to buy one?   Thanks for the blurb!

Actually, Bill has not determined a price for it yet. I'll let Bill make that announcement. I'd love to own one - maybe some day.
